The basic account of this family is Laura Davidson Baird, History of the Davidson Family, South Central Kentucky Historical Quarterly 4 (1976/7): 30-6, based on a letter that she wrote in 1901. By her own report, the writer was a granddaughter of Alexander Davidson and his second wife, Mary Ellis. Also important in establishing the composition of the family is Trabue et al. v. Davidson et al., Barren County, Kentucky, Circuit Court Chancery Case Files, case no. 1777, FHL microfilm 218,729.
