Sources

Early summaries of this family appear in Jonathan Pearson, Contributions to the History of the Ancient Dutch Families of Albany, New York Genealogical and Biographical Record 3 (1872): 81-5, at 84, and Jonathan Pearson, Contributions for the Genealogies of the First Settlers of the Ancient County of Albany, from 1630 to 1800 (Albany, N. Y.: Joel Munsell, 1872), 51. Pearson omitted Elizabeth from the lists of Harmen and Maria’s children, evidently because her baptism was not recorded in the Dutch Reformed Church in Albany. He mentioned this placement as a possibility in Contributions for the Genealogy of the Descendants of the First Settlers of the Patent and City of Schenectady, from 1662 to 1800 (1873; reprint, Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1976), 141. John Calder Pearson, The Cromwell and Lewis Families of the Mohawk Valley, New York Genealogical and Biographical Record 41 (1910): 20-7, at 20 n. *, accepts it as probable. Unfortunately, this last article cannot be relied on for the date of Maria’s birth; that statement seems to be a misreading of the burial date, one hundred years later to the day, that Jonathan Pearson had printed.
