Although efforts have been made to enumerate descendants not listed by Ward—for example, the Edmund Rice Association’s Genealogical Register of Edmund Rice Descendants (Rutland, Vt.: Charles E. Tuttle Company, 1970)—Ward remains the basic source on this family. Valuable contributions have been made to the English history of Edmund Rice, most notably Mary Lovering Holman, English Notes on Edmund Rice, American Genealogist 10 (1933/4): 133-7, and Robert Charles Anderson, The English Origins of Philemon Whale, Genealogist 6 (1985): 131-41, but Edmund’s ancestry has yet to be discovered.
