Ashley, The English Origins of Walter Tybbot of Gloucester, Massachusetts, and His Wives and Daughters, New England Historical and Genealogical Register 175 (2021): 330-41. The wife of John Matchett is identified as Richard’s daughter in the biography of Clara Ware (Carter) Hunting, in William Richard Cutter, Genealogical and Personal Memoirs Relating to the Families of Boston and Eastern Massachusetts, 4 vols. (New York: Lewis Historical Publishing Company, 1908), 3:1392. Although the dates of birth and marriage given for Mary in Vital Records of Gloucester, Massachusetts, to the End of the Year 1849, 3 vols. (Topsfield, Mass.: Topsfield Historical Society, 1917; Salem, Mass.: Essex Institute, 1923–4), 1:219, 2:179, 369, would make her a woman of unusually advanced age at her first marriage, no other woman with the correct name has been found in 1711 in Gloucester or any adjacent town.
