Sources

The basic compiled accounts of successive generations of this family are found in Burkhart Oertel, Ortssippenbuch der württemburgische Kreisstadt Backnang, 4 vols., Deutsche Ortssippenbücher, ser. A, vols. 262, 263, 354, 392, and Reihe Württembergische Ortssippenbücher, vols. 40, 41, 60, 72 (Neibiberg, Ger.: compiler, 1999–2005), 4:92. Oertel regards the connection between Michael (gen. 2) and Michael (gen. 3) as wohl—probable, rather than certain—but it is confirmed by the younger Michael’s marriage record from the parish of Unterweissach, to which Oertel had no direct reference. The marriage is recorded in Evangelische Kirche Weissach im Tal, Dekanat Backnang, Kirchenbücher, Band 2, unpaged, image 183 recto, third entry, Landeskirchliches Archiv Stuttgart, via Archion (www.archion.de/en, Stuttgart, Germany: Kirchenbuchportal GmbH, 2013–8). The record also establishes the maiden name and father of the younger Michael’s wife.
